As a manufacturer of starter solenoids , could you explain how they work?
Most automotive starter control devices use Solenoid switches to control the starter. The Solenoid switch's functions include:
1. Controlling the engagement and disengagement of the starter drive gear with the engine flywheel ring gear.
2. Controlling the connection and disconnection of the DC motor circuit.
An Solenoid switch consists of an attraction coil, a holding coil, a movable iron core, a return spring, and main contacts.
What is the working process of an Solenoid switch?
1. When the ignition switch is turned to the Start position, terminal 50 is connected. The attraction coil is energized through main contact C, the field winding, and the armature rotor iron. The holding coil is directly energized to ground.
2. The magnetic fields of the two coils are in the same direction, overcoming the return spring force and attracting the movable iron core. This pushes the switch, causing the drive gear to engage with the engine flywheel rack and simultaneously connecting the starter's main contacts. 3. When the main contacts are connected, the starter excitation winding and armature rotor are energized simultaneously, driving the engine flywheel and completing the starting process.
4. When the starter main contacts are connected, the pull-in coil is short-circuited, leaving only the holding coil to maintain the core's pull-in operation.
